Vast Country

We have not traveled terribly far from Sao Paulo. I believe we are about 7 hours away in Londrina. The one thing that is very noticable is that they have a vast amount of agricultural land for cropland use. We will get the opportunity to tour a beef and dairy facility today, which I have been pretty excited about for some time. Everything is going very well and we have kept a very busy schedule every day that we have been in Brazil.

Traveling in Brazil

Hey,

If anyone reads this, things are going very well in Brazil. I had the opportunity to see tractors being manufactured, sugarcane being harvested, visit with University of Sao Paulo Professors, meet with one of the largest sugar processing cooperative and farmer cooperative staff. That is only in 3 days.

We have had a good mix of food because they really like meat and eggs. That works pretty good for me.

I am looking forward to the citrus plantation and some of the livestock facilities in a couple of days.

It has been a great experience and it really is making me realize how the United States has a great impact on other countries of the world.

We are in Brazil

Hey,

I am in Brazil and enjoying it very much. The flight was very long on Monday morning. I still had groggy eyes Monday morning when all of the sudden I saw this guy that looked familiar. It was in fact Tony Oliva (former MN Twin). A few people talked to him and got their picture taken and then he was on our same flight to miami.

Here is the main link for the Brazil Blog

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/amy/brazil/

I posted a few comments about our tour today. We ate at a Brazilian BBQ today for dinner. I love the food at these places, maybe not everything just the meat. The slow cook many different types of meat and bring it to your table. There are a few of these in the Twin Cities as well and they are gaining popularity.

Anyway, need to go to bed. We are touring an AGCO factory tomorrow and maybe a sugarcane field.

Just about ready to go!

I am going to work real hard to make sure that some entries are posted here on the weblog. It is Sunday afternoon and most of those attending will be staying in the cities prior to flying out on the early flight tomorrow (Monday) to Brazil.

A couple of things I want to learn about is where they are at with their infrastructure for moving product and what kind of plans they have for the future. I also want to see how they use technology on some of these farms and try to compare that to agriculture in MN. There is a lot of things I would like to see and do so now it is just time to go and see what is learned.
