Emotion In ADs

Were surrounded by them everyday all the time. Advertisements are apart of our life regardless of where we are. TV, billboards, on the internet and in magazines everywhere- advertisers strive to get our attention and seek our responses. They want us to feel something so that we will remember whatever it is they are trying to sell. Some ads do a great job at this while others seem to fail. One way that advertisers get our attention is by associating their product with something we desire- which could be an attractive female or male or a distinct memory that makes us feel happy or sad. They want our ATTENTION, and they will do whatever they can to get it.

Check out this Chevy ad

It is a great example of how advertisement strives to get your attention emotionally, using their product (the conditioned stimulus) to get you to remember their product and the emotions you associate it with.

Being a marketing major, my life consists of investigating what makes customers intrigued. Getting their attention is the main focus point of all ads and second to sell the product to the customers. I agree that the company does use emotional reactions to engage the customer in the product. Being involved in marketing for several years, seeing the ad that you have posted, I do agree with you also on the ad attacking your emotional side. If the company continues to engage you emotionally you feel more obligated to buy this product or service because it will better your life, or so the ad says. Advertising is an interesting form of manipulation to the way you think and due to the constant changing of the way we think, I don't know if it will ever go away.

If I had to sum up this ad I would have to say that it really pulls on your heart strings. I was in DECA in high school, a marketing club, and we used to compete based on many things like this. Sometimes we would even need to design a promotional plan for a fake company. It was actually really fun. The thing about ads and commericals is that it can really be anything. There isn't any huge limitation. There is such a huge variety that you can choose from so we could really take our pick. It is still amazing to me that we haven't done every commerical possible yet. New ones are still being made today that are so original. Just watch the super bowl. I think that would be the best advertising class! Because this Chevy ad tugs on your heart you beleive that the company values this, emotion. This company then seems more like the rest of us, which makes it attractive so we want to buy from it. Good commercial pick!

I loved this commercial when I saw it -- while I don't want to go out and buy a Chevy right away, it has the effect of leaving an impression which some day may influence me to buy their product or at the very least to think well of them.

This add evoked an emotion from me, because I can imagine what it is like to have lost something and have it returned years later. "From fathers to sons Chevy runs deep" a quote that ends the commercial to imply Chevy is a family car.
