While reading chapter 5, I came across a section on hypnosis. According to the chapter 5, hypnosis is defined that a set of techniques that provides people with suggestions for alterations in their perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The use of hypnotic techniques has increased continuously because it is considered a safe, reliable, effective and comfortable alternative to other traditional clinical methods. Many professions recognize the potential benefits of using hypnosis for stress management and the hypnosis method is used to stop smoking, eliminate phobias or lose weight.
I have no experience with hypnosis, but I have done meditation through one of physical education classes. At that time, when I was deep in meditation, I was in the stage of comfortable relaxation by the instructor's direction. Even though there are differences between hypnosis and meditation, I believe similarity of that both methods can be used to eliminate physical discomfort. In addition, I truly felt that my whole body was extremely being relaxed and sometimes, I had fallen asleep with a consciousness dream.

I think hypnosis is fascinating. I have seen a hypnotist perform twice, and both were really cool and funny experiences. You can search hypnotist on youtube and watch videos of them performing. I tried the video, but I didn't really do it in a good environment and I became distracted. I want to try it again. I think exploring different states of consciousness including hypnosis is a field that still has a lot to be discovered about it! It seems like a hard area to study, because what do you really measure when you are studying consciousness?

I actually have a funny story about when I saw my friends become hypnotized. It was the last day of school, senior year in high school, and the school put together a lock-in for all the seniors. One of the attractions was the hypotist. She grabbed ten kids from the audience and had them all sit down, close their eyes, listen to her, and follow her demands. After about five minutes of following her directions you could tell they were not even trying anymore. They were asked questions like, "A cop pulled you over, what is your excuse to get out of the speeding ticket?" Some replied that they had to get to Grandma's house and quick. One of my classmates even answered, "I gotta take a dump," with a straight face and eyes closed. It was halarious but amazing. The hypnotist then told the hypnotees that something was funny and one of my classmates fell over in his chair he was laughing so hard. I was skeptical of this skill but after seeing my classmates act very much unlike their normal selves I am swayed. I do think that it is possible but you have to let yourself go and not tell yourself that you are being hypnotized. This is why it didn't work on me; I couldn't give someone else that control. It is a very interesting concept but I wonder if it can ever be scientifically proven?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this! It's always interesting to hear new approaches that Life Coaches are taking to help their clients achieve results. I am actually a Christian Life Coach myself. I don't personally use hypnosis in my coaching, however, I do use a lot of brain rewiring techniques. I have come to realize that helping my clients achieve permanent change means helping them rewire their brain in key areas, otherwise our successes will only be temporary. I do not know what the neurological implications are of hypnosis. I would love to learn more about whether it has the capacity to actually neurologically rewire the brain. Do you know anything about that particular topic? If you are interested in hypnosis, NLP and other similar tools, you might want to check out Dr. Caroline Leaf. She is doing some amazing things in the way of neurological research that have actually really benefited my coaching practice. Thank you so much for sharing and for drawing on the research of other life coaches.

I also think that hypnosis is extremely fascinating. For my senior party we had a hypnotist perform for us and I was positive that it was a scam before the show started. Then a few of my friends participated and I really started to see that whatever was happening at least appeared real. Real or not, it is interesting to witness different stages of consciousness and how they can be manipulated.

The subject of hypnosis is interesting in the way it can alter consciousness Jonghwa. I have always wondered what exactly is going in in the sense that suggestions from another person can change our awareness.

Some research has found that not everyone is susceptible to the effects of hypnosis but the idea of a personality trait related to suggestibility is interesting but not easily measured. There must be some biological difference in brain chemistry or structure that allows people to be easily hypnotized but I don't believe there are clear answers yet.

I also wonder how well self-hypnosis works. I did not look at your video, I was worried it would make me tired and I have too many more blogs to grade! I guess it is probably like meditation in the sense that it helps focus the mind on the present and eliminate distracting or stressful thoughts.

My greatest pleasure is in being your guidance and support; walking your through the journey of activating you to make something (even more) amazing with your life.
