Discover Exceptional Women (September 22-October 3)
This fall, the Women’s Center will host a two-week (September 22-October 3) series of events entitled “Discover Exceptional Women.� The series is designed to engage women students, faculty, staff, students, and members of the community in the wide range of resources, programming, and services available to women at the U. The two weeks will feature welcoming receptions, as well as lectures, films, and workshops on topics including women’s leadership, work/life balance, body image, women’s health, and strategies for student success. The keynote lecture, “Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters� will feature author Courtney E. Martin about her book of the same title. Events open to the public except where noted. University of Minnesota Equity and Diversity Breakfast
Thursday, November 20, 2008, 7:30-9:30 a.m.
McNamara Alumni Center, 200 E. Oak St., University of Minnesota
Sponsored by the Office for Equity and Diversity and co-hosted by the President's Intercultural Advisory Council and The Graduate School, the Equity and Diversity Breakfast will provide a place for the University community to build new relationships and strengthen existing relationships across campus and across the state in support of the University’s equity and diversity work. Dollars raised by the Breakfast--both from corporate sponsorships and table/seat reservations--will be used in support of the SEED Awards program, honoring high-achieving diverse undergraduate and graduate students. University Women of Color – Fall Welcome & Tapestry Award
UWOC Fall Welcome will be Nov. 5th, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Mississippi Room, Coffman Union. This year’s program features a panel addressing health and wellness issues specific to women of color. Fall Tucker Center Distinguished Lecture
The Fall Distinguished Lecture, held on Wednesday, October 22, from 7-9pm at Cowles Auditorium in the Hubert H. Humphrey Center on the U of M's West Bank, will feature a panel of Minnesota female Olympic athletes. FFI: http://www.tuckercenter.org.

Mini Medical School Fall 2008
Topics for this five-week series will include: pandemic flu; food and water safety; battlefield medicine; the science of stem cells; forensic pathology; ethical situations in natural disasters; and clinical trials, Mondays, 6-8:30 p.m., October 13-November 10, Coffman Union Theatre. Women's Support/Counseling Groups
For undergraduate and graduate students at Eddy Hall: Women's Personal Issues (two sections: Mondays 3:00-4:30, and Thursdays, 12:30-2:15), Women Over 30, and Dance of Intimacy (days and times to be arranged with members). UCCS also offers an assortment of mixed gender groups, including Understanding Self and Others and Support for Students Who have Lost Parents and Siblings. The Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans (TOYM) program is Minnesota’s only statewide recognition program for outstanding young leaders. The program acknowledges the efforts of young leaders that have contributed to our state through their service, thought and influence, community involvement, or entrepreneurship. The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Awards

Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning; and who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others.
