Girls Gone Wild a Different Situation

I think I’ve always kind of thought that porn is what it is. I mean, I don’t feel like it should be restricted or anything (well, viewing, yes, but its existence, no). Maybe I’m a little crazy in thinking that the idea of legalized prostitution in Las Vegas is okay also. I figure that if it’s legal, it is more controlled…without activities being left underground, at least there is a better chance for fair treatment within the industry. But I digress… I did actually see part of a Girls Gone Wild video last year. My friends thought it would be funny to put it in, but I actually paid attention and got kind of vocal about it and I don’t think it was as funny as they thought it was going to be. I was bothered by a girl who was very intoxicated and still telling whoever was operating the camera that she didn’t want to be taped and he kept encouraging her. The thing is, even though she was drunk, she was still obviously asserting the fact that she didn’t want to expose herself. Yet, they did eventually convince her to do it and it ended up being used…so a lot of people have seen her in less than desirable conditions. Many of the girls are so drunk that they don’t even attempt to say no, but my guess is that they would not normally do this. Girls Gone Wild isn’t porn, at least not in my opinion. Porn is different not only in the existence of intercourse, but that, yes, those stars do make the conscious decision to make the film or take the pictures. The same goes for legalized prostitution. They know what they are getting in to and do it intentionally. They have the ability to think about the consequences and whatnot. Yes, it may be a problem that they feel sexual exploitation is the best source of income, but at least it is a conscious choice. I feel like it is important to provide those from lower economic status with educational opportunities so that they feel like they can choose to do something different, but the fact is, these industries will always exist, and as long as they know what they are getting into, there isn’t much more to say. However, Girls Gone Wild is a completely different situation. I do have a problem with this. It is not porn. Many of the girls have no conscious interest in revealing themselves. I hate that they can get away with everything that they do.
