Pornography

So I can see by the blogs written that this is quite an interesting and controversial topic to discuss. I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion although it may not be the same. I also believe that a women has the right to chose to do whatever they want with their body. I personally do not think that pornography should become illegal or anything becasue of many reasons. One, I agree with Debbie about the fact that if it is legal then it is more controlled and people wouldn't have to commit "illegal crimes" and such to get a hold of it. Two, I think it's true what Kimberly said that women in the porn industry know what they are doing and are able to detach themselves from the "occupation" or simply enjoy it. Finally three, it is also a way to claim one's own body as stated in the class presentation.

Perhaps their are extremes that may be the result of pornography such as rapes and abuse towards women, but these are rare cases and the person commiting the act is probably not in their right minds. Also, the porn industry because of its controversies is perhaps just an easy target as with Barbie and sex. There is always so much more that is not talked about, it is not that simple. I want to make the point that porn films or whatever do not stage story lines or scenes of murder and rape so I'm not sure where people get the idea that porn encourages such events in real life. I would also have to agree with Debbie about Girls Gone Wild not being "real" porn even though it may arouse sexual desires. The girls in the film may be "consenting" to being filmed by being in public space, but the majority of them are intoxicated and are not able to make decent decisions about thier actions. Stuff like Girls Gone Wild, I would have to say it should be illegal because the consequences that the girls in the film or film makers face are much more dangerous and serious than that of the porn industry in that not all those filmed "consent" to it unlike porn stars who do it when they are sober and willingly becuase it is their job and are getting paid lots of money.
