We're searching for a full-time Writing Program Administrator at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Please circulate broadly and get in touch with any questions.

The Assistant Director of First Year Writing assists and supports the Faculty Director in the management and operation of the First-Year Writing Program (FYW). The First-Year Writing Program enables students to fulfill the University's first year writing requirement through its three available 1000-level writing courses. The individual in this position has responsibility for: (1) FYW administration and management, (2) FYW curriculum and instructional management, and (3) professional development and supervision of FYW instructors including graduate instructors and full- and part-time professional instructors. The Assistant Education Specialist teaches one (1) section of first-year writing each AY.

Eliason Presents on ESL

Pat Eliason presented a workshop with George Schooley, an ABE teacher from Hubbs Center in St. Paul, for the MN State Adult ESL Institute May 2012. The presentation was entitled "The Development of Writing Skills Beyond the ESL Classroom."

Pat Eliason was also part of a panel of presenters at the MN State Teachers of English as a Second Language conference, Nov 2012, for a preconference workshop entitled "Corrective Feedback for Linguistic Errors in Adult ESL Writers."

Congrats, Trent!

Trent Kays's review of Jody Shipka's Toward a Composition Made Whole was published in Composition Studies 40.2 (2012). It's available online.

Trent also had a chapter accepted for an edited collection: "A 21st Century Knowledge System: Social Media Ethics in the Context of the Classroom" in Gorg Mallia's The Social Classroom: Integrating Social Network Use in Education. The collection will be out next year.
