Demand for The Nerdery's User Experience Design services has exploded. To meet this demand, we've developed a UX designer apprenticeship program and we're actively seeking our first two apprentices. The goal of this program is to provide a path into UX design to those with the raw materials to be a great designer but who lack experience within the field. Apprentices selected for the program will develop their skills through focused, real-world work experience, close mentoring, and detailed tracking of their development. (For additional details on how this program works, see this handy blog post: http://blog.nerdery.com/2013/02/user-experience-design-apprenticeship/)

We expect apprentices to have significant knowledge about UX design methods around user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability evaluation. However, we do not expect apprentices to have much if any experience using these methods. Apprentices will develop skill in these methods through training, mentorship, and hands-on work.

To apply for the program, please attach your resume to the online application in PDF format and provide us with a link to an online portfolio of any interactive or design work you've done. We don't expect apprentices to have a UX portfolio, but we do need to be able to see how you solve problems. Your portfolio can contain anything from unsolicited redesigns of sites you've done on your own or coursework from UX-related educational programs to freelance work.

Requirements:

    -0 years of UX experience
-Broad familiarity with UX research & design methods
-Ability to learn complex things quickly
-Curiosity about people
-A degree of aptitude & familiarity with technology
-Think critically and creatively while maintaining close attention to detail
-Communicate clearly and concisely through written, verbal, and visual means
-Passionate about solving technology problems for people

Educational Requirements:

While we strongly prefer graduates of UX focused undergraduate & graduate programs (e.g., interaction design, information architecture, or human-computer interaction), formal education in UX design is not a requirement.

Nerdery Assessment Test

Applicants who progress beyond the first interview will be given a NAT tailored to their discipline. Applicants spend upwards to 10 hours on their NAT. Ace your NAT and you'll get our attention.

Nerd Perks:

-Developer-oriented workplace; work on a variety of compelling, challenging projects surrounded by nerdy supergeniuses
-Created by nerds, for nerds; 85% of staff has development background, including senior management
-Casual dress
-Free breakfast, food trucks and convenient lunch ordering/delivery
-Team environment, collaborative learning environment, transparent communications
-Flexible 40-hour work week
-Benefits package including a 401k, unlimited sick days
-On-site Yoga classes, massage service
-Dog-friendly, including monthly dog grooming
-Chess, Anime, daily hackysack; home of 20+ extracurricular clubs and room for the one you want to create
