Project Intern - Preserve Minneapolis

The Project: Migrate existing content from the Old Highland Neighborhood's walking tour into a mobile app template.

Timeframe: Estimated 30 hours/week for approximately 10 weeks beginning late April - early May.

Project Completion Date: June 30, 2013

Stipend: $4000.

Required Qualifications:

-Knowledgeable and experienced in social media
-Creative, self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Able to organize work and stay on task to complete it efficiently
-Able to work evenings and weekends
-Strong interpersonal skills required

Preferred Qualifications:

-Background in historic preservation, interpretive writing for public tourism
-Familiar with content management systems and search engine optimization
-Prior experience working with grass root volunteer-based organizations

Primary Duties/Responsibilities of the intern:

• Rewrite a search-engine friendly narrative of 31 home tour sites incorporating content from Old Highland walking tour brochure, tour guide script and Placeography.org
• Identify additional content needs to improve quality and public interest of the walking tour
• Develop and implement publicity plan including launch event and press release, and associated promotional efforts utilizing social media
• Write Final Report for the grant

Working with the project advisory committee and technical advisory team:
• Outline content needs through wire-framing (mobile app)
• Conduct testing
• Complete content insertion on Preserve Minneapolis website

Introduction: "NanoVox" (www.nanovox.net) is a mechanism initiated by businesses, colleges & universities and others so a collective community of researchers has a working knowledge of its "assets," to strengthen this region's economy by leveraging nanotechnology across industry sectors.

Internship Summary: NanoVox is seeking someone with strong networking/marketing and communication skills for a paid technical communications internship position.

As a representative of NanoVox, the intern will reach out to universities, colleges and companies in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota to identify nanotechnology research.

Additionally, the intern will:
+ help create the NanoVox newsletter that will emphasize the importance of nanotechnology collaboration between academia and industry;
+ research topics, interview individuals and write articles for the NanoVox website and newsletter;
+ take photographs;
+ help establish mechanisms to share information amongst technology professionals (databases);
+ contribute to the advancement of the NanoVox website (editing within the framework, adding content)
+ establish a framework for video collection and archiving

The intern may additionally be involved in the planning and organization of NanoVox-sponsored nanotechnology conferences.

Requirements*:

1. Intern must be enrolled at the University of Minnesota and in the S&TC major.
2. Intern should have excellent networking and communication skills.
3. Intern should be proficient in MS Office.
