new CEHD brand?

I just noticed that the College of Education and Human Development's website says that we are "Inspiring Minds." Hhhmmm, is this our new college brand, along lines of the all-university Driven to Discover campaign?

Hi Walt -- As the college's director of communications, I thought I should respond. I enjoy your blog a lot, by the way.

The "Inspiring Minds" tag that you've noted on the Web site will be coming down very soon. It is a remnant of the old College of Education and Human Development and was part of that college's tagline for its centennial, celebrated in the last year of its existence, 2005-06.

We hope to engage in a series of community meetings--focus groups of a sort--in the coming year to help to determine what this new college is all about and what kind of "tag line" -- if any -- we should have, not just on the Web site, but on all of our communication materials.

Our goal would be to make any efforts around marketing for the new college harmonious with and even built upon the university's efforts in the Driven to Discover campaign. The communications office likes the ideas underlying the "discover" campaign and we believe it's flexible enough to accomodate the messages that will be unique to the new college. We're going to need a lot of input and as much research as we can afford to come up with words, descriptors, images--even colors--that offer a true reflection of this new enterprise we're all engaged in.

The university worked with an outside firm that did extensive marketing research to arrive at the current campaign materials. That isn't realistic for us--that kind of budget doesn't exist at the college level--but we ARE committed to involving as many folks in the college community as possible in the process.
