Today a Brotha passed me on a bike. He answered my "What up?" with "God is Great! Pimpin' ain't easy but someone's got to do it!" Um, I don't think that particular juxtaposition would have ever occurred to me, but I'll give my man props for creativity!
Thursday on campus I watched a guy put up flyers that advertised student jobs. Each flyer had multiple tear-off contact info slips at the bottom, and the guy tore off the left-hand slip on each flyer. I suppose he did this to create the impression that at least one student was interested in the opportunity, but he should have torn off slips randomly, don't you think? A left-hand missing slip here, a middle slip missing there, a right-hand missing slip way over there.... This (non)pattern is much less suspect than slips missing in the same place on each flyer, I think.
Check out my newly created blog: AA&AS 40th Anniversary. That "revolutionary type" style is not too radical, is it?
Also, I changed the style on my AA&AS Chair's Blog to "parchment." Coolio, no?
On March 18, 2008, Barack Obama delivered a speech about race in the United States. The blog "Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast" offers an abridged and highlighted version of key points in the speech.
Insidehighered.com reports that a movie about the higher education tenure process will soon begin filming, with Luke Wilson as the junior faculty member up for the prize. Hhhmmmm....
I was interviewed for a news commentary that appeared today: "Clinton-Obama race producing 'delightful dilemma' for black women." All of the other people quoted are Black women (I think) so I'm not sure why I was called....
I thought that I would be able to take my first ever Spring Break next week, but, alas, too much work has built up over the past few days to take more than a day or two off. Oh well; maybe next year!
Daylight Saving Time started today, which usually signals that Spring is here (or just about to arrive). I couldn't say that this morning, however, while out shovelling fresh snow....
The Minneapolis StarTribune recently posted a commentary about whether a White woman (Hillary Clinton) or a Black man (Barack Obama) should be elected President ("Whose Turn Is It?"). See also an article from The Atlantic about how Obama may transcend divisive political battles.
I created a quiz about Do The Right Thing, available via Facebook. Check it out if you have an account!
I originally had 10 questions in the quiz, but one was dropped somehow: "What do Radio Raheem and Buggin' Out want Sal to do just before the riot starts: a) make them some pizza, b) let them drink beer, c) put some pictures of Brothas on the wall, or d) put up flyers for a concert? What's the correct answer?
