My definition did not change from last week's entry. In the Komives reading, one thing that stuck and was already in my reading was that in a group, an individual person's experience collaborated with other group members can benefit that group with different knowledge. This is key to my definition of leadership and still is incorporated.

This Week's Entry
My definition of leadership is identified by core values of collective and collaborative individuals and groups of people. Leadership offers stability and can evolve for the beneficence of the group/organization/environment.

My definition of leadership changed a little. I incorporated beneficence because leadership offers changes that can better the organization/group/environment. Collective and collaborative part of my definition is a product of individual identity development. A person who gives great input has good knowledge of self-awareness and identity of themselves.
My definition of leadership did not change from last week's definition. I did not incorporate anything from either of the readings for this week. I feel as though they are great articles about being engaged and in tuned with what is going on around you, I don't feel it gets to what I think leadership is. The Heifetz article had great theory of the "balcony" effect but It has little relevance to my definition.

This week I shortened the definition of leadership this definition gets to the point of where the core definition of leadership comes from. In Astin's article, I incorporated the idea of leadership being a collaborate effort instead of just being individual. The article gave great input about leadership especially when they talked about the seven C's: Collaboration, consciousness of self, commitment, congruence, common purpose, controversy with civility and citizenship.

I left a few things out this week that was not necessarily needed for the definition. My perspective change a little about the definition of leadership. The two articles of ethics taught me that having values are important but opening up your mind to new changes or other points of view is also important. Also the choices you make are not the "right versus wrong, but the wrong versus right" ones. (Kidder 18)

My definition of leadership is, is identifying values true to yourself. Basing decisions and standing up for things you value through actions and words represent leadership.
My Definition changed dramatically because I was looking more towards characteristics of a leader and not what leadership is. The impacts of the Terry and Lee readings impacted my definition by teaching me that its not possessing the characteristics that counts because leadership comes in different forms and actions. Like in one of the readings where a person implicated that construction around the U of M should be at night and soon after they started construction at nights.

September 23, 2011 New Definition:

My definition of what leadership is is someone who possesses the characteristics of taking initiative in organizing and directing. Leadership is having the capability to take control over an audience and having important roles and importance to a person(s) life. Leadership offers stability and leaves room for reasonable doubt.

-My definition changed a little from the week before. I feel like the reading from this past week really affected my thoughts and views on the definition of leadership. I incorporated stability because I value a solid foundation. Referring to the Rath reading, I agreed mostly his four basic. They are very essential to leadership.
