Putting prisoners for better use?
Many local governments are facing difficulties to keep up with their services due to fiscal shortfalls. Some "innovative" ideas come up recently to put prisoners in unfilled works.
According to the the AP (1/11), residents in Charlestown, Indiana, will decide on a proposal to "beef up a volunteer firefighting department with inmates" with "minimum-security." is Severely "short-staffed," Charlestown's fire department had started training eight inmates before it was stopped due to growing concern of residents. Yet the state Department of Correction seems to have "planned to give the program the green light."
Likewise, Florida's CBS affiliate WINK-TV (1/11, Capasso) reports that Collier County is studying whether to "pull prisoners from behind bars and put them to work" in unfilled county jobs for "trash pickup, landscaping, auto detailing, accounting" and as "lifeguards." The county "has already lost roughly $34 million due to state budget cuts last year" and "stands to lose another $50 million" if a state property tax referendum passes on Jan. 29. Final decision has yet to be made by the county manager.

not if they actually dont care about our survival which they dont it may be bullshit but when it does transpire it would most likely be somthing such as this . NO warning in any way, thats why the many significant governments in the globe happen to be establishing underground bunkers which in all probability want work anyhow

Your piece truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this specific subject matter goes. I'm actually getting sick and tired of every trackback spam that my site is getting. There's a squillion plug ins it would seem, and I do not know which one would be good for this, or even if I've come across all of the plugins that will help me get rid of this. So quick question - what plugin do you recommend to get rid of trackback spam? I nonetheless want to get comments, but this other stuff is driving me nuts.

TLS, It is possible that we have an unrecognized duplicate in our master address file that has caused you to receive a duplicate form. As part of the census process, we look for these situations and ensure we eventually delete the duplicate record. It is also possible, though we had quality control procedures on all the printing and labeling efforts, that the vendor accidentally printed two forms for the same address. Unfortunately, no quality control process can ensure zero errors. Thank you for filling out and sending back your 2010 Census questionnaire. You can discard the second form. Because we have to account for each form we mail out, a census taker might come to your home between May and July to find out why the second form was not mailed back. At that time you can tell the census taker that you received two forms and were told to mail one back and discard the other one.

Sadly they are only hurting themselves. They too use Economic Census data to tell them about their constituents. Wonder what will happen when they want the data and are told sorry but we can't give that to you anymore because you cut our budget so much we had terminate that program.

Awesome educational experiences, adventures and photos! You seem to be out in the country more now. Is there time to wade across a small wild stream, or flip over an unsupervised rock or rotten log during a rare private moment to see what fairly ancient local creatures might be sheltering there just like they were centuries ago?
Posted by: Carel | November 29, 2012 4:41 AM
Linda, Thank you for participating in the 2010 Census. The follow-up visits was a quality assurance interview. The Census Bureau needs to ensure that the data collected is correct. Not every residence will receive a quality assurance interview.

I wonder to what extent the results would differ if you aggregated spelling and other name variants. Anecdotally, there seems to be a recent trend of giving kids names that sound like more-or-less traditional names but are spelled unusually (notable celebrity examples would include Dwyane Wade and Britney Spears).
Posted by: Cable | November 29, 2012 5:32 AM
Agreed. It would be an extremely scary precedent to set. I wonder if this four-year-old and the four-year-olds after would have to pay the lady in cookies or legos.

There are perhaps *some* made-order conventions that do stick, especially as regards e.g. spelling and punctuation, which might form a third category between the emergent patterns and the wicked-zombie superstitions (also in specialized varieties of language used as professional jargon where certain lexical distinctions get more precise and both writers and readers expect that). The Hayekian point isn't that there's no place whatsoever in society for made order, only that that place is optimally of a much more limited scope than the politically-typical New Yorker writer/reader of the 1930's and most/all subsequent decades tended to believe. Perhaps the descriptivist point should be that the prescribed/legislated rules/conventions that stick are the ones that can in practice be successfully integrated into the grown order and thus do not keep needing to be reinforced by bossy copy editors, in contrast to the more contra naturam prescriptivist rules which in practice work at cross-purposes to the irresistable pressure of the grown order such that perfectly intelligent native speakers will keep spontaneously violating them in their first drafts until beaten into submission.

I'm not sure, even with a protagonist named Massimo Poesio [cameo performance by a lugubrious Anthony Hopkins? Question since this data will be used to assist in funding issues, might someone questions the results based on the fact that the data is suppose to be as of April 1st and people are mailing in their forms prior to that date. It probably won't change most people's answers but technically can you consider the data valid if it is mail before April 1. I noticed that Illinois had already received almost 50% of their responses. Maybe all census' are run this way I just don't know but if not this issue of dates could turn out to be a problem.

There are not any county level maps for many in the NC Piedmont prior to about 1880. I am while in the approach of mapping a lot of of the 18th century land grants for what are now Orange and Alamance Counties and compiling them into a forthcoming Land Grant Atlas of Previous Orange County. This project is related to Allen B Markham's work on land grants in Durham County and surrounding areas.

Acid reflux disease, also called as gastro-esophageal reflux disease, or GERD, happens generated by the coexistence of 2 diseases. The first acid reflux disease contributing condition is a retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus. Having said that, the reflux itself does not really give rise to gastro-esophageal reflux disease signs and symptoms or histologic changes, and can appear among healthy people young and old as well. In this instance, the process is referred to as "physiologic gastroesophageal reflux".
